Search “SEO” in the Shopify App Store and you get hundreds of results. Most of them promise the same thing in slightly different words. AI meta tags, image compression, schema, speed, and now “AEO” and “GEO” on top of all that.

I’ve been selling online since 2005 and running my own ecommerce business since October 2010. These days I build done-for-you Shopify stores for clients and manage SEO and Google Shopping ads for client stores. So I see the same pattern over and over. A store owner installs 3 SEO apps in the first week, each one adds its own code, and nobody remembers which app is doing what 6 months later.

This guide is the short list I’d actually give a friend. It covers 9 apps I’d consider, what each one is built for, what it costs as of November 2026, and who it fits. I also cover what Shopify already does for free, because a lot of stores don’t need an SEO app at all.

One honest note before we start. I did not run a hands-on test of every app on a live store for this article. The ranking is built from each app’s official Shopify App Store listing (checked on November 3, 2026), its pricing, its feature list, and how well that feature set matches a typical small or high-ticket store. One more disclosure: SEO Paradise is exploring its own SEO tool, so it is not included in this ranking.

Quick comparison of the best Shopify SEO apps

Here’s the whole list on one screen. Ratings, review counts and prices come from each app’s Shopify App Store listing as of November 2026. Prices are in USD and billed every 30 days unless the plan says annual.

App Developer Free plan Paid plans Rating (reviews) Best fit
Tiny SEO Speed Image Optimizer TinySEO (former TinyIMG) Yes $14 to $49 per month 5.0 (2,574) All-round pick for most stores
Avada AI SEO Image Optimizer Avada SEO Suite Yes $34.95 or $99 per month 4.9 (4,688) Guided audits and checklists
SEO King Engage Apps Yes $9.99 to $16.99 per month 4.7 (545) Big catalogs on a budget
Smart SEO AI & Image Optimizer Sherpas Design Yes $14.99 to $49.99 per month 5.0 (960) Indexing control and AI bulk edits
SearchPie: AI SEO & Schema PieLab Yes $39 or $99 per month 4.9 (2,461) Schema plus speed in one app
Booster AI SEO + AEO Optimizer Booster SEO Yes $39 or $69 per month 4.8 (5,480) Hands-off, automated fixes
Ilana’s JSON-LD for SEO Ilana Davis LLC No (7-day trial) $399 per year 4.9 (440) Structured data only, done right
Plug in SEO Plug in Useful No (7-day trial) $4.99 to $79.99 per month 4.6 (677) Audits plus keyword research
Yoast SEO Yoast No (14-day trial) $19 or $45 per month 4.3 (174) Editors who like Yoast’s guidance

Keep in mind that ratings drift every week and plans change often. Always open the listing and read the current pricing tab before you install anything.

What Shopify already does for SEO (so you may not need an app)

Before you spend a dollar, know what you already get. Shopify’s own SEO overview in the Shopify Help Center lists several built-in features that are handled automatically. That list matters, because many app features simply repeat it.

  • Canonical tags. Shopify adds auto-generated canonical tags to pages to keep duplicate URLs out of search results.
  • sitemap.xml and robots.txt. Both files are generated automatically. Your sitemap updates when you add products, collections, pages or blog posts.
  • Title tags and meta descriptions. Every product, collection, page and blog post has an editable search engine listing section at the bottom of the editor.
  • Product structured data. Shopify says current themes include schema markup for products by default, which covers price and availability on product pages.
  • SSL. Certificates are active by default on every store.
  • Redirects. You can add URL redirects in the admin or import them in bulk with a CSV file.
  • Hiding pages. The seo.hidden metafield removes a product, page or blog post from sitemaps, search engines and store search, with no app needed.

The steps for that last one are in Shopify’s guide to hiding a page from search engines. It’s a 5-minute job in Settings, then Metafields and metaobjects.

So what is left for an app to do? Mostly 4 things. Bulk editing titles, meta descriptions and alt text across hundreds of products. Image compression and speed tweaks. Extended structured data (reviews, return policy, shipping details, FAQ, breadcrumbs). And monitoring for broken links and 404s so you can redirect them before you lose traffic.

If your store has 30 products and you’re willing to write titles and alt text by hand, you can skip the app and follow our Shopify SEO checklist instead. If you have 800 SKUs from a dozen suppliers, a bulk editor saves real hours. That’s the honest dividing line.

How I picked these apps

I started with the 10 apps that show up most often in “best Shopify SEO app” results and in client conversations. Then I opened every listing on apps.shopify.com in the same session and recorded the exact name, developer, plans, free plan or trial, rating and review count.

Each app got judged on 5 questions:

  1. Does it fix things Shopify does not already handle?
  2. Is the free plan useful, or just a teaser?
  3. Does the pricing scale sensibly as the catalog grows?
  4. Does the review count give the rating some weight?
  5. Is it focused, or does it try to do 40 things and add code for all of them?

One candidate changed since many older lists were written. SEOAnt now appears in the App Store as SEOWILL: AI SEO & AI Blog Post by CWILL, and its listing says “formerly SEOAnt.” I cover it briefly at the end of the ranking. Yoast SEO for Shopify still exists, so it made the list too.

The 9 best Shopify SEO apps, ranked

1. Tiny SEO Speed Image Optimizer (formerly TinyIMG)

Tiny SEO Speed Image Optimizer is the app many people still call TinyIMG. The developer now goes by TinySEO, and the listing says it launched on June 12, 2019. It holds a 5.0 rating from 2,574 reviews as of November 2026.

The feature list covers the core jobs well. Image compression and resizing, alt text and file name optimization, JSON-LD schema, broken link detection with 301 redirects, lazy loading, JS and CSS minification, HTML sitemaps, IndexNow submissions and automated site audits. It also lists Google Search Console among its integrations.

Pricing as of November 2026: a Free plan with 50 image optimizations per month, Beginner at $14 per month, Advanced at $23 per month and Expert at $49 per month. The paid plans include a 7-day free trial. Note that IndexNow, broken link redirects and automatic AI metadata start on Advanced, not Beginner.

Who it fits: most small and mid-size stores that want one app for images, schema and technical cleanup. The $23 tier is the sweet spot for a store with a few hundred products.

2. Avada AI SEO Image Optimizer

Avada AI SEO Image Optimizer comes from the developer listed as Avada SEO Suite. It has one of the largest review bases in the category, with a 4.9 rating from 4,688 reviews as of November 2026.

The angle here is guidance. The listing leads with an AI SEO Audit Agent that scans pages for issues, an on-page optimizer for speed and technical SEO, and a built-in SEO checklist. You also get image compression, alt text, sitemaps, structured data, a broken link manager and a robots.txt editor on paid plans.

Pricing as of November 2026: Free (100 image optimizations, 20 on-page audits, 100 AI credits and basic structured data), Pro at $34.95 per month and Enterprise at $99 per month. Paid plans list a 7-day free trial.

Who it fits: store owners who are new to SEO and want a checklist that tells them what to do next. If you already know your fixes, you may pay for guidance you won’t use.

3. SEO King

SEO King by Engage Apps launched on February 10, 2017 and has a 4.7 rating from 545 reviews as of November 2026. The pitch is consolidation, with audits, image optimization, JSON-LD, broken links, image sitemaps, llms.txt, page speed metrics and Search Console analytics in one dashboard.

The pricing model is what stands out. Plans are based on page count, not features. As of November 2026 there’s a Free basics plan, then $9.99 per month for 500 pages, $13.99 for 5,000 pages and $16.99 for 20,000 pages. All paid tiers list the same features, including unlimited text AI, robots.txt and llms.txt editing and advanced JSON-LD schemas.

Who it fits: stores with large catalogs that want a full toolset without paying per feature. A 3,000-product store pays the same feature price as a 300-product store, just a different page tier.

4. Smart SEO AI & Image Optimizer

Smart SEO AI & Image Optimizer by Sherpas Design holds a 5.0 rating from 960 reviews as of November 2026. It covers meta tags, alt text, images, page speed, JSON-LD, broken links and a backlinks report.

What I like for indexing control is the noindex tag management, sitemap control and IndexNow automation. The listing also mentions a Search Console integration on paid plans and an LLM catalog feature aimed at AI assistants.

Pricing as of November 2026: Free (broken link checks on 100 pages, 50 image optimizations, 20 AI generations, meta and alt tag optimization, sitemap and noindex tags), Pro at $14.99 per month, Business at $24.99 and Premium at $49.99. Paid plans include a 7-day free trial.

Who it fits: stores that want hands-on control over what gets indexed, plus bulk AI meta and alt text on the Business tier.

5. SearchPie: AI SEO & Schema

SearchPie: AI SEO & Schema is built by PieLab and has a 4.9 rating from 2,461 reviews as of November 2026. The URL slug says “seo-booster,” which confuses people, but this is SearchPie and not the Booster app below.

The free Starter plan is generous. It includes breadcrumbs and store schema, a sitemap, image compression, CSS minification, bulk meta tags and alt text with templates, IndexNow and 404 detection. Premium at $39 per month adds price, rating, in-stock and FAQ schema, JS minification and automatic broken link fixes. Enterprise is $99 per month. Paid plans list a 7-day free trial.

Who it fits: stores that want schema and speed work in one app. Check the schema output against your theme first (more on that below).

6. Booster AI SEO + AEO Optimizer

Booster AI SEO + AEO Optimizer by Booster SEO has a listed launch date of March 28, 2016. It has the most reviews in this group, a 4.8 rating from 5,480 reviews as of November 2026.

Booster is built around automation. The app scans the store and applies fixes on autopilot for meta tags, broken links and structured data on paid plans. The Free plan includes an SEO score, alt text templates, broken link detection, manual audits and weekly image sync for 50 images. Pro is $39 per month (or $349 per year) and Premium is $69 per month (or $619 per year), with a 14-day free trial.

Who it fits: owners who want to set it and leave it. The trade-off is less control. Review the changes it makes in the first 2 weeks so you know what’s running on your store.

7. Ilana’s JSON-LD for SEO

Ilana’s JSON-LD for SEO by Ilana Davis LLC does one job. It adds and maintains structured data. It has a 4.9 rating from 440 reviews as of November 2026.

It covers products, reviews, blogs, breadcrumbs, homepage, loyalty, recipes, FAQs and video markup. It lists support for 20+ review apps and Google Merchant Center compatibility, which matters if you run Shopping ads. The listing also says your structured data auto-updates when you swap or edit the theme.

Pricing is one plan, Annual Pro at $399 per year, with a 7-day free trial. There’s no free plan. The listing says you also get a structured data audit, ongoing monitoring of rich results and a video course.

Who it fits: stores where rich results and Merchant Center data are worth real money, like high-ticket stores with reviews. If you sell $2,000 items, star ratings and accurate shipping and return data in search results are worth caring about. If you already sell in a niche from our high-ticket niches list, this is the app I’d look at first for schema.

8. Plug in SEO

Plug in SEO by Plug in Useful (full listing name “Plug in SEO, SEO Audit and Fix”) has a 4.6 rating from 677 reviews as of November 2026. It focuses on audits, bulk edits for alt text, file names, URLs and meta tags, JSON-LD tools and a keyword research feature it calls Keyword Studio.

Pricing as of November 2026: Starter at $4.99 per month (scan up to 30 pages), Lite at $29.99 (200 pages), Standard at $49.99 (2,000 pages) and Premium at $79.99 (unlimited pages). Every plan lists a 7-day free trial. There’s no free plan.

Who it fits: owners who want audit reports plus some keyword help inside Shopify. The Starter plan is cheap, but 30 scanned pages won’t cover most real catalogs.

9. Yoast SEO for Shopify

Yes, it still exists. Yoast SEO by Yoast is listed as “Yoast SEO, Store optimization” and has a 4.3 rating from 174 reviews as of November 2026. That’s a much smaller review base than the others.

Yoast brings its familiar content analysis to the Shopify editor. You get SEO and readability analysis, automatic structured data, technical SEO improvements, llms.txt generation and AI suggestions for titles and meta descriptions. The AI+ plan adds AI visibility tracking and competitor benchmarking.

Pricing as of November 2026: Yoast SEO Premium at $19 per month (or $190 per year) and Yoast SEO AI+ at $45 per month (or $450 per year), both with a 14-day free trial. There’s no free plan.

Who it fits: people coming from WordPress who already think in Yoast’s green and orange dots, and stores that write a lot of product and blog copy.

Also checked: SEOWILL (formerly SEOAnt)

SEOWILL: AI SEO & AI Blog Post by CWILL has a 4.8 rating from 1,804 reviews as of November 2026, with a Free plan, Pro at $29.99 per month and Premium at $59.99 per month. It leans hard into AI blog generation and audits. It didn’t make my 9 because AI blog posts are the last thing most stores need. Keep that in mind if a list tells you an app will “write your SEO content” for you.

The risk of stacking SEO apps

This is the part most “best apps” lists skip. More SEO apps do not equal more SEO. Stacking them usually makes things worse, and I see it on client stores all the time.

Duplicate structured data

Your theme already outputs product schema. Add SearchPie, then Ilana’s app, then an all-in-one suite, and you can end up with 3 Product blocks on one page with different prices or review counts. Google’s product structured data documentation explains the difference between product snippets and merchant listings. It’s worth reading before you let 2 apps write the same markup.

The fix is simple. Pick one source of truth for schema. Either the theme, or one app, with the theme’s version turned off if the app supports that. Then run a product URL through the Rich Results Test and count the Product items.

Speed costs

Every app that injects scripts into the storefront adds weight. An SEO app that minifies your CSS but loads its own JavaScript on every page is not a net win. Run PageSpeed Insights on a product page before you install and again after, and compare the mobile numbers.

Conflicting titles and meta tags

Some SEO apps add their own theme files or snippets that output title tags. Two apps writing meta templates at once means your titles change depending on which one ran last. That’s a pain in the butt to debug.

Leftover code after uninstall

Some apps leave snippets in your theme after you remove them. Duplicate or orphaned code can keep outputting old schema or tags. After any uninstall, search your theme code for the app’s name and check a product page’s source.

My rule: one all-in-one app, or one focused schema app plus manual work. Never 2 all-in-one apps on the same store. If you want a full process for spotting these conflicts, our guide to common Shopify SEO issues walks through the usual suspects.

How to choose the right SEO app for your store

Start with the problem, not the app. Most stores have 1 or 2 real SEO problems, and the right app is the one that fixes those without adding 30 features you’ll never open. Run a quick Shopify SEO audit first so you know what you’re actually fixing.

Match your main problem to an app type
Your main problem What you need Apps to look at
Hundreds of products with missing alt text and weak meta tags Bulk editor with templates SEO King, Smart SEO, Plug in SEO
Slow pages and heavy images Image compression and lazy loading Tiny SEO, Avada, SearchPie
No review stars or shipping data in search results Extended structured data Ilana’s JSON-LD for SEO, SearchPie
Deleted products leaving 404s Broken link monitoring and redirects Tiny SEO (Advanced), Booster, Smart SEO
You don’t know where to start Guided audit and checklist Avada, Booster
You write a lot of product and blog copy Content analysis in the editor Yoast SEO

A 5-step selection process

  1. Write down your top 2 problems. Use Search Console and a crawl, not a hunch. Our Google Search Console for Shopify guide shows which reports to check.
  2. Check what your theme already does. View the source on a product page and look for application/ld+json. If Product schema is there, you may not need a schema app.
  3. Shortlist 2 apps, not 5. Read the 1-star and 2-star reviews on each listing. That’s where you learn about support and conflicts.
  4. Test on the free plan or trial. Measure page speed before and after. Check one product page’s schema and title tag.
  5. Commit to one. Uninstall the loser, then check your theme code for leftovers.

A simple scoring rubric

If you’re stuck between 2 apps, score each from 1 to 5 on these 5 lines and add them up. The higher total wins, and a 1 on line 4 knocks an app out no matter what.

  • Fixes my top problem directly (1 to 5)
  • Free plan or trial lets me prove it works (1 to 5)
  • Price at my catalog size in 12 months (1 to 5)
  • Doesn’t duplicate what my theme already outputs (1 to 5)
  • Recent reviews mention responsive support (1 to 5)

And remember, an app is a helper. Rankings come from picking the right keywords, building collection pages people actually want, and earning links. If you’re still choosing your niche or your suppliers, that work matters far more than any app. Our sister site has a full guide to finding the best suppliers for high-ticket dropshipping, which is where a profitable store really starts.

If you haven’t launched yet, you can start a store with a Shopify free trial and get the basics right before you install a single SEO app. Most of the wins in the native list above take an afternoon.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Shopify SEO app?

For most stores, Tiny SEO Speed Image Optimizer is the best all-round pick as of November 2026, with a useful free plan and paid plans from $14 per month. If your catalog is large and your budget is small, SEO King’s page-based pricing is hard to beat. If you only need structured data, Ilana’s JSON-LD for SEO is the focused choice.

Do I need an SEO app for Shopify at all?

Not always. Shopify already generates your sitemap, robots.txt and canonical tags, gives you editable titles and meta descriptions, and its themes include product schema. Small stores that write their own titles and alt text can do fine without an app. Bigger catalogs usually benefit from a bulk editor.

Can I use 2 SEO apps at the same time?

You can, but be careful. Two apps writing schema or meta templates can create duplicate structured data and conflicting title tags. If you run 2, make sure they don’t overlap. One focused schema app plus a separate image compressor is fine. Two all-in-one suites is asking for trouble.

Are free Shopify SEO apps any good?

Some free plans are genuinely useful. SearchPie’s Starter plan and SEO King’s Free basics plan both include bulk meta and alt text tools as of November 2026. Free plans usually cap images, pages or AI credits, so check the limits against your catalog size.

Will an SEO app get my store to page 1 of Google?

No app can promise that. Apps fix technical and on-page issues faster. Rankings still depend on keyword targeting, content quality, internal links and backlinks. Treat an app as a time-saver, not a strategy.
